Developers who base their living on platforms they have no control over are on extremely shaky ground and should have their expectations set accordingly.
2) Twitter bashing was trendy among self described 'A' listers more than a month ago ( http://moourl.com/w7w3h ). However, Twitter's issues remain only a minor inconvenience to a majority of users. The reason that users have not flocked - en masse - to another service is because there is not enough pain to be bothered to do so. Why is there not enough pain? Because the features reduced or restricted are non-core items affecting the lowest number of people who consume the highest number of resources ( http://moourl.com/moxgq ).

The wringing of hands and gnashing teeth of over twitter often casts the service as an essential public utility. It's as if its downtime is rendering entire cities without water or electricity. There is no doubt that twitter is useful in certain contexts. But not being able to tell me about your latest blog post AT THIS VERY SECOND is not one of them. Perspective is essential.

Those that are attempting to build mission critical applications requiring that kind of utility-like guaranteed uptime ( a commercial version of http://moourl.com/g3rwl perhaps?) would recognized that's not twitter's strength - yet.

Re: Talk Back

Good point. We weren't trying to be tough on you, Sterling... really just looking for more information than what appeared on the surface.

You did well, of course... .and I like your comment here: "Business ...involves a bit of confrontation when a contractor or partner isn't delivering, when negotiating a deal, or competing for a bid."

Or, like you said, it would be boring!

Re: eBiz for Everyone - Sterling Okura of BizLift.com - Jun 30,2008

@DrSick - Several people mentioned the tough questions. Especially Robert's early question expressing skepticism over my blog article comparing Mixed Martial Arts training to business. Matt asked as great question, "Isn't business supposed to be about collaboration?"

I agreed and replied about the teamwork involved training. But in hindsight, realized that the skeptical attitude about the blog post was confrontational, not collaborative. Interviews need a bit of confrontation, or they would be boring. Business also involves a bit of confrontation when a contractor or partner isn't delivering, when negotiating a deal, or competing for a bid.

Fight training is a great way to physically learn how to deal with confrontation, to flow with it, and most importantly to develop the warrior mindset to never quit. So thank you DrSick for all of your training and mentoring.

Re: eBiz for Everyone - Sterling Okura of BizLift.com - Jun 30,2008

@watsonda - Thanks for tuning bro.
